Reducing Doctors’ Burnout The Crying Need Of The Day – Here Is Why
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the world saw that doctors are the real frontline fighters. Physicians were the ones who stood steadfast at the frontlines while other professionals isolated themselves in their homes. This was the only time when doctors across the world were appreciated for their noble profession.
But if we dive a little deeper, we can figure out that doctors are always the frontline warriors. Be it the Spanish Flu, deadly plagues, or any other deadly epidemics, doctors have been risking their lives throughout these tough times. And the COVID-19 pandemic was the epitome of that.

Currently, hospitals in the U.S. are with patients with influenza, seasonal flu, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV.) Not to mention that Chicken Pox is another alarming disease that is setting hospitals abuzz. Similarly, the mayhem of the COVID-19 pandemic is still here. And doctors are going through the post-traumatic experience of the pandemic.
Because they have been in close contact with patients with covid, they are still vulnerable to the aftermath of the pandemic. All these diseases – no matter how deadly in nature – come down to doctors as the last ray of hope. These doctors work tirelessly to diagnose numberless diseases. By doing so, they are risking their own lives.
However, what is more gruesome is that the hostility and threats against health workers are increasing after the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court. According to the decision, health professionals were ‘criminalized’ and became vulnerable to demoralizing pay cuts.

Do you think that it is okay? Certainly not! Doctors must not be appreciated during an epidemic only. Instead, these professionals need to have proper access to decent earnings, healthcare, and additional perks. Plus, there should be specified work hours for health care officials – just like any other professional.
However, it is essential to note here that doctors do not experience burnout at work. Because the nature of their profession is critical, they should be in a calm state of mind to offer their services to patients.

So, it should be a national priority to reduce the burnout of doctors at work. The work schedule should be flexible, and doctors should find ample time to spend on their well-being.
Above all, there must be no pay cuts for doctors. Because they work tirelessly – whether it is a pandemic or not – they should not be a victim of pay cuts. It is demoralizing for doctors to work under tight deadlines and not get paid accordingly. To boost their morale, the pay should be raised. Or, to say the least, the demoralizing pay cuts should not be there.
Because doctors are responsible for saving millions of lives, they should be at home working in the hospital. Work stress should not be a thing for doctors.
